Approaching the house it is already apparent to Alice that it is quite strange. The house itself is shaped like a rabbit's head. Outside sitting at a large table set for tea are the Mad Hatter and March Hare with a door mouse in between them (he is currently sleeping). When Alice requests a seat the Mad pair object saying that there is no room even though there are plenty of places set. Alice takes a seat anyway and the three of them (with occasional interruptions from the door mouse) begin a nonsense conversation. Soon Alice finds that the members of the table move over a place every so often for it is always six o' clock (teatime) owing to a spat with Time. After a particularly rude comment from the Hatter Alice leaves the Mad pair in a huff, continuing on to find a door embedded in one of the forest trees. When the door is opened Alice once again enters the locked-door hallway. Knowing in her mind what to do she shrinks herself so she can go through the smallest door (after already unlocking it) and finds herself in a garden.
